Pedro Benavente, El Indio, a native of Buenos Aires, is a world renowned
dancer, teacher and choreographer of Argentinian tango. His academic and popular training has given him a unique style. He was the Principal
dancer for the Brandsen and the National Folkloric Ballet, the two most prestigious groups of Folkloric ballet in Argentina. He was a guest dancer for the
Bolshoi Ballet to perform a dance with Andris and Ilse Liepe (principal dancer for the Kirow and Bolshoi Ballet), a fusion of tango and ballet to the music of Astor
Piazzola. El Indio has collaborated in performances with Mercedes Sosa, Leon
Gieco, Victor Heredia Marcelo Nsinman and others. With Gustavo Collini, a student of Cazuo Ono, El Indio developed a fusion of Tango and Butho.
For the last 10 years El Indio taught tango around the world and at some of the most prestigious festivals and tango congress. Some of these include Cita 99, 2000. Nora's Tango Week 99, 200. For the last 10 years he has performed at the Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo narrating the history of tango through dance.
El Indio has studied with the most important masters of tango, both male and
female, not only academic but also grass roots milongeros and milongeras. El Indio is passionate about the old milongero and canjenje styles and subtle form of communication and has done a great deal of research on the subject. Among his academic teachers are Elvira & Virulazo, the Dinzels, Copes, Gustavo Naveira & Olga Bessio, Mingo & Ester Pugliese, Graciela Gonzales. Among the milongeros Tete & Maria, The Cieris, Nina & Luis, Facundo & Kelly, Carmencita Calderon (companera del Cachafaz), El Pive Palermo, Pepito Avellaneda & Susuki,
Tommy, El Tano Guillermo, El Tigre, Omar Vega, Pupy.
In his classes, El Indio emphasizes the basic, fundamental aspects of tango milongero which are: rhythm, balance, axis, change of weigh, caminata,
cadencia, intencion, connection through the embrace and steps. All these aspects are essential for tango, vals and milonga. One of El Indio 's areas
of especially is the milonga "con traspie" (rhythm, time & space). El Indio brings to the class intensity, passion and vitality that are infectious. |
Mariana Fresno was initially trained in ballet and contemporary dance at the National School of Dance in Buenos Aires. She studied tango with Ester & Mingo Pugliese, Juan Carlos Copes, Maria & Rodolfo Cieri, Tete, Jose Garofalo and others.
Mariana taught tango workshops in several countries in Europe such as: Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland & Denmark. She participated in a tango tour to Tokio and was part of Osvaldo Soto tango tour to Chile. In addition to teaching tango in performing in various venues in Buenos Aires, she participated in films such as Evita, El Sueno de los Heroes, Cancion Desesperada..and others.
In 1995 and 96 she partnered with El Indio in the performances at the Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo, and again in 2000 . She was El Indio partner for the CITA 2000 congress and Nora Tango Week in 2000.
